Nano Jewelry Review & Giveaway

My family and I have worked in the jewelry business for a long time. My grandfather was the president of a renowned jewelry company in Boston, MA for years. My mother worked within the accounting office and I worked within the shipping department in this same company. The topic of jewelry has been the subject of conversation throughout my life.

I love finding new jewelry pieces. I am definitely a woman who loves to accessorize! I enjoy trying new styles with various outfits and talking with friends and family about the companies I have discovered. I recently learned about Nano Jewelry and was instantly captivated by their unique pendants. Nano Jewelry “aspires to spread words and symbols of understanding among people of all faiths”. Words such as “Peace” and “I Love You” are written in tiny writing in over 100 different languages. Each pendant comes with a magnifying glass so you can view the writing. I was immediately drawn to the Love Pendants.  Of these, I chose to review the I Love You in 120 languages silver pendant, which has “I love you” inscribed in 120 different languages. Not only is this pendant beautiful, but it has been such a conversation starter! When colleagues comment on it at work, I explain the meaning behind it and they are so impressed with the detail and design. The Nano Jewelry website is full of information and I really found their process of creating the pendants so interesting. I also learned a great deal about Onyx, its relation to the Bible, and how it is associated with healing. I was never aware of how Onyx is thought to help others with strength, self-control, grief, and a variety of physical conditions, to name a few.




This pendant is perfect for me. I am constantly having conversations with students about diversity and tolerance. I emphasize that no matter who we are, where we come from, our religious background, and the color of our skin, we all say “I love you”. I absolutely love having a meaning behind the jewelry that I wear. I find it motivational during the day. These pendants certainly have inspiration and completely unique to pieces sold in your everyday store.

Book Review & Giveaway: Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back - A Tale About Telling the Truth

I think one of the most frustrating issues for parents to deal with is dishonesty. We try to teach children that their situation or problem would be handled much more easily if they are honest up front. Most often, we speak from experience. We remember what it was like to get caught lying as a child, the anxiety associated with it, and the consequences we received as a result. However, children develop bad habits, are afraid of getting in trouble, and/or are so desperate for others to like them that they will lie – “whoppers” and little white fibs.

Parents across the world are pulling their hair out on a daily basis because of their children’s (and other adults’ for that matter) dishonesty. Reading storybooks with your child is one strategy that can be used to help teach children the impact of the choices they makes and the consequences of those choices.

“Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back: A Tale About Telling the Truth”, writte by Howard Binkow, is a fabulous book that addresses the issue of honesty. Howard B. Wigglebottom is a young bunny that develops the unfortunate habit of lying to friends and family. The expression of “having a monkey on his back” is taught to students as Howard feels the weight growing and growing until he can’t stand it any longer.

This book is a great discussion starter and I will be using this with my students in grades one through three this year during my lessons on honesty. The book does a wonderful job pointing out why Howard lies; for example, to keep his friend from getting into trouble, for attention from his peers, to keep from getting into trouble himself, etc. The illustrations are adorable as well. I think that it is fabulous that the author includes lesson suggestions and discussion questions at the back of the book, which can be used for parents as well as teachers.

Howard B. Wigglebottom is a character in a whole series, which includes the topics of bullying, listening, and dealing with problems. The We Do Listen Foundation’s website is located at www.wedolisten.com. Their website includes free animated books, educational games and activities, songs, lessons, posters, e-cards, and other resources. It is full of information!

Puppies vs.Babies Online Contest - Vote for who is cuter!

I have to be honest – I had not heard of the show Puppies vs. Babies; however, since I have checked out the Animal Planet website and seen some of the clips, I have DVR’d it!  I think my daughter and I will enjoy watching it together.  We are both pet lovers for sure, but we also watch videos on YouTube that my daughter finds of cute babies doing cute or funny things.  For those of you that have not heard of the show, Puppies vs. Babies is s program that shows cute baby and puppy videos!

Stand Up For Comedy Special from American Family Insurance

AmFam sponsored a new comedy special called the “Stand Up For Family Comedy Special”, which was hosted by Bill Bellamy.  These comedians are hilarious talking about funny memories they have of their family members.  There is one video I thought was hysterical by Bill Bellamy called “Momma Talk”.  He described how each time they went to someone else’s house, his mother would gather them together and have a little talk with them about their behavior and give them a warning.  Oh my gosh!  I was laughing because this is exactly what I have done with my own daughter!

I have a funny memory of my own that I like to share with people because it shows how mortifyingly embarrassing my southern Grandma could be.  My sister and I would go to visit my grandparents in North Carolina each summer while we were growing up.  My grandmother was always strangely concerned over whether my sister and I had had a “BM” that day.  She would ask us in the middle of supper in front of everyone or shout it from down the hallway, “DID YOU HAVE A BM TODAY??” (make sure you say this with a thick southern accent!)  If my daughter’s stomach hurts and I have had to ask her this same question, I think of my grandmother, and apologize to my daughter for having to ask.

I love that American Family Insurance created this Stand Up For Family comedy special and that the whole family can enjoy it.  Most comedy specials can’t (or shouldn’t I should say) be seen by kids.  I love sharing stories about my family with others and I love to hear hysterical stories as well.  There is nothing like family!!
