My Salon Doll Campaign Tour & Giveaway!

Photobucket

My daughter adores her dolls. She will play with them for hours, pretending to be their mother, their teacher, their babysitter – it changes every day. She enjoys dressing them and styling their hair. I recently heard about a new doll called the My Salon Doll. What is unique about these dolls is that they have real hair! The My Salon Doll can have a bath with your child, have their hair washed, and styled with a blow dryer, curling iron, or a straightener. That’s so different from other dolls! These dolls retail for approximately $100.00, which is comparable to the American Girl Dolls.

Photobucket

Amazon Rain Lluvia Refreshing Mist Review & Giveaway

Photobucket

Dry skin is a chronic problem for me. I know it’s my own fault. I do not drink enough water and I am always dehydrated. Thankfully, my face is not that dry, but it certainly could use some moisture. I recently had the opportunity to review the Amazon Rain Lluvia Refreshing Mist for normal skin. This spray mist is exactly what its name implies – it’s refreshing. Although it can be used in the morning and at night, I have been using it at night only. At the end of a long day of work, I change out of my work clothes, put on my sweats, pull my hair up, wash my face, and spray a little of the mist on my face. So nice! The tightness I was feeling in my face disappears instantly. There is the lightest scent, which is nice. It’s sweet, not overwhelming at all.

I obtained a list of the ingredients from their website:
• Suma helps reinvigorate your skin’s defenses. In South America, the Rainforest herb Suma is known as a 'para todo' (meaning "for everything"). Native tribes have long used it to treat wounds and skin rashes.
• Uña de Gato is a powerful weapon against the visible signs of aging. It also fights free radicals and helps to soothe and refresh the skin.
• Essential oils like Melissa and Sandalwood help purify the skin. They also provide the soothing aroma that makes this formula so unique.

The Amazon Rain products, created by the Amazon Herb Company, intrigued me for a couple of reasons. First of all, the ingredients used are harvested from plants in the Amazon Rainforest by the Indigenous communities there. I was not aware of the antioxidant compounds, taspines and other naturally occurring phyto-elements that are in these plants. Also, a portion of the proceeds of each product sold is donated to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center (http://www.oliviaappeal.com). I learned that Olivia Newton-John herself currently uses Amazon Rain products as part of her daily routine. She has also announced that the first 50 people who purchase an Amazon Rain product will receive a free gift – a personally signed LIV aid to assist in supporting breast self-examinations!
A portion of the proceeds of each sale is also donated to the ACEER (Amazon Center for Environmental Education & Research), which supports the opportunity for teachers and environmental education programs to visit the children of the villages in the Rainforest.

You can read more about Amazon Rain products HERE!

I am so proud to support companies such as The Amazon Herb Company and their Amazon Rain skincare products. Not only do customers benefit by caring for their skin with natural ingredients, but their money is used in such inspirational and meaningful ways!

Book Review & Giveaway: Daria Rose and The Day She Chose

Photobucket

I love finding stories for children that emphasize making good choices, being confident, and overall, encouraging positive character development. I wish I had had books such as these as a child – I could have really used them! I feel as though one of the best things I can do as a mom and counselor is to find books that children will connect to, find meaningful, and hopefully keep in mind for when they are in a similar situation.

Daria Rose and The Day She Chose, written by Yvonne Capitelli, is the story of Daria Rose. Daria Rose is experiencing many different feelings as a result of schoolwork and her interactions with peers. After a conversation with her mother and receiving wonderful advice, Daria Rose approaches each day with courage, determination, and confidence. As a result of Daria’s commitment to making smart choices and making up her mind for herself, she is able to change her outlook on life and benefit academically and socially.

This is a fantastic book that captures the insecurities that children, whether boy or girl, experience every day. I am constantly saying to my daughter and students, “Make good choices”. This book, although fiction, is a great depiction of the benefits that a child can reap from focusing on making good choices as well as keeping a positive frame of mind. The illustrations are beautiful and the book overall is extremely high quality. This book is filled with meaningful advice for not only children, but for adults as well. I love the fact that towards the end of the book, Daria Rose proposes five questions that she can ask herself, including:
  • What do I want to happen?
  • What do I need to do to make it happen?
  • What am I afraid of and what is the worst thing that can happen?
  • Whom could I ask to help me?
  • Will my decision make things better?
These are seriously questions that I can ask myself on a daily basis! I am looking forward to sharing this book with my students. There are so many important ideas, concepts, and feelings that can be discussed.

I was so impressed to learn that a portion of the proceeds of each sale of Daria Rose will be donated to the Children's Cancer Society and the CFIDS Association of America.
More about the author:
It has been a dream of Yvonne Capitelli's to write children's books that build character. Her passion is to inspire young children to make good choices and realize the power they have within. She wants all children to know that they must take control and create their own happiness through how they act and react to different situations. Daria Rose books will inspire then to make good choices, have strong self-esteem, build confidence, courage, strength, determination, friendship and good values. They will be inspired to be thoughtful and thankful.
Thank you very much to Yvonne Capitelli for providing me the opportunity to review Daria Rose and for also agreeing to sponsor a giveaway! One Tidbits From A Mom reader will receive a copy of Daria Rose and The Day She Chose. Here are the details of the giveaway:

Swarovski Crystal Holiday Earrings - Snowmen, Trees, Angels, and even The Grinch!

My Etsy shop, Dearheart Designs, is officially open!  I am very pleased to have it up and running.  People have been asking me why I decided to close my main website after five years.  Why did I do this?  First of all, I love Etsy and I think it's a fabulous place to purchase handcrafted items.  Secondly, I am going to be selling a limited number of designs for the time being.  My hands are currently "in many pots" and I need to focus my attention on certain pieces of jewelry.

Sooooo....I am very excited to have listed my gorgeous Swarovski Crystal Holiday Earrings collection!  Included in the collection are Angels, Christmas Trees, Winter Trees, Snowmen, and even The Grinch!  These earrings are made with only the finest components.

Nano Jewelry Review & Giveaway

Photobucket

My family and I have worked in the jewelry business for a long time. My grandfather was the president of a renowned jewelry company in Boston, MA for years. My mother worked within the accounting office and I worked within the shipping department in this same company. The topic of jewelry has been the subject of conversation throughout my life.

I love finding new jewelry pieces. I am definitely a woman who loves to accessorize! I enjoy trying new styles with various outfits and talking with friends and family about the companies I have discovered. I recently learned about Nano Jewelry and was instantly captivated by their unique pendants. Nano Jewelry “aspires to spread words and symbols of understanding among people of all faiths”. Words such as “Peace” and “I Love You” are written in tiny writing in over 100 different languages. Each pendant comes with a magnifying glass so you can view the writing. Two different pendants are available, including the Onyx Pendants, which come in 14K Gold and Silver, and the Cubic Zirconia Jewelry.

I was immediately drawn to the Love Pendants.  Of these, I chose to review the I Love You in 120 languages silver pendant, which has “I love you” inscribed in 120 different languages. Not only is this pendant beautiful, but it has been such a conversation starter! When colleagues comment on it at work, I explain the meaning behind it and they are so impressed with the detail and design. The Nano Jewelry website is full of information and I really found their process of creating the pendants so interesting. I also learned a great deal about Onyx, its relation to the Bible, and how it is associated with healing. I was never aware of how Onyx is thought to help others with strength, self-control, grief, and a variety of physical conditions, to name a few.

Photobucket

This pendant is perfect for me. I am constantly having conversations with students about diversity and tolerance. I emphasize that no matter who we are, where we come from, our religious background, and the color of our skin, we all say “I love you”. I absolutely love having a meaning behind the jewelry that I wear. I find it motivational during the day. These pendants certainly have inspiration and completely unique to pieces sold in your everyday store.

Book Review & Giveaway: Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back - A Tale About Telling the Truth

Photobucket
I think one of the most frustrating issues for parents to deal with is dishonesty. We try to teach children that their situation or problem would be handled much more easily if they are honest up front. Most often, we speak from experience. We remember what it was like to get caught lying as a child, the anxiety associated with it, and the consequences we received as a result. However, children develop bad habits, are afraid of getting in trouble, and/or are so desperate for others to like them that they will lie – “whoppers” and little white fibs.

Parents across the world are pulling their hair out on a daily basis because of their children’s (and other adults’ for that matter) dishonesty. Reading storybooks with your child is one strategy that can be used to help teach children the impact of the choices they makes and the consequences of those choices.

“Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back: A Tale About Telling the Truth”, writte by Howard Binkow, is a fabulous book that addresses the issue of honesty. Howard B. Wigglebottom is a young bunny that develops the unfortunate habit of lying to friends and family. The expression of “having a monkey on his back” is taught to students as Howard feels the weight growing and growing until he can’t stand it any longer.

This book is a great discussion starter and I will be using this with my students in grades one through three this year during my lessons on honesty. The book does a wonderful job pointing out why Howard lies; for example, to keep his friend from getting into trouble, for attention from his peers, to keep from getting into trouble himself, etc. The illustrations are adorable as well. I think that it is fabulous that the author includes lesson suggestions and discussion questions at the back of the book, which can be used for parents as well as teachers.

Howard B. Wigglebottom is a character in a whole series, which includes the topics of bullying, listening, and dealing with problems. The We Do Listen Foundation’s website is located at www.wedolisten.com. Their website includes free animated books, educational games and activities, songs, lessons, posters, e-cards, and other resources. It is full of information!

Howard Binkow has been generous to offer one Tidbits From A Mom reader the opportunity to win “Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back”! Please see the giveaway details below!

Win It: One reader will win a copy of Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back: A Tale About Telling the Truth.

Puppies vs.Babies Online Contest - Vote for who is cuter!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puppies vs. Babies for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

PvB-CuteDar-Green-300x250-Backup.jpg

I have to be honest – I had not heard of the show Puppies vs. Babies; however, since I have checked out the Animal Planet website and seen some of the clips, I have DVR’d it!  I think my daughter and I will enjoy watching it together.  We are both pet lovers for sure, but we also watch videos on YouTube that my daughter finds of cute babies doing cute or funny things.  For those of you that have not heard of the show, Puppies vs. Babies is s program that shows cute baby and puppy videos!
Puppies vs. Babies online contest is an opportunity for you to vote for whether you think puppies or babies are cuter.  You can also vote for the first round of puppies and the first round of babies that you find cutest.
This was a hard decision for me!  I am a dog lover, but I do think most babies are cute.  I think my baby is the cutest baby on the planet – obviously!  His beautiful big blue eyes and his smile make my whole day.  Here is a picture of my son that I would have entered into the contest:

Who would you vote for and why?  Vote for your choice today!  Also, come back here and let me know who you voted for.  I would love to hear from you!

Stand Up For Comedy Special from American Family Insurance

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of American Family Insurance for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

AmFam sponsored a new comedy special called the “Stand Up For Family Comedy Special”, which was hosted by Bill Bellamy.  These comedians are hilarious talking about funny memories they have of their family members.  There is one video I thought was hysterical by Bill Bellamy called “Momma Talk”.  He described how each time they went to someone else’s house, his mother would gather them together and have a little talk with them about their behavior and give them a warning.  Oh my gosh!  I was laughing because this is exactly what I have done with my own daughter!

I have a funny memory of my own that I like to share with people because it shows how mortifyingly embarrassing my southern Grandma could be.  My sister and I would go to visit my grandparents in North Carolina each summer while we were growing up.  My grandmother was always strangely concerned over whether my sister and I had had a “BM” that day.  She would ask us in the middle of supper in front of everyone or shout it from down the hallway, “DID YOU HAVE A BM TODAY??” (make sure you say this with a thick southern accent!)  If my daughter’s stomach hurts and I have had to ask her this same question, I think of my grandmother, and apologize to my daughter for having to ask.

I love that American Family Insurance created this Stand Up For Family comedy special and that the whole family can enjoy it.  Most comedy specials can’t (or shouldn’t I should say) be seen by kids.  I love sharing stories about my family with others and I love to hear hysterical stories as well.  There is nothing like family!!

19 Ugly Tattoo Mistakes

Photobucket

I know many people who have tattoos.  They are typically hidden, for the most part, and have a particular meaning for them.  I can certainly understand and respect choosing a certain tattoo that honors a loved one or has sentimental reason.  I have been comtemplating gettin gone myself - two sets of baby angel wings for the two babies I have lost. However, I have to admit I have a hard time understanding what prompts people to tattoo their bodies with more outrageous tattoos.  Check out this link of bizarre tattoos! - 19 Ugly Tattoo Mistakes!

Moonlight Rises Book Tour

Photobucket

Book Details:
Genre:Adult Suspense, Mystery, Thriller
Publisher: StoneGate Ink
Publication Date: August 13,2011
Source: Partners in Crime Tours

Synopsis:
“Life sucks. Then you die. Or, if you’re Dick Moonlight, first you die and then you live.”

Dick Moonlight is dead.

Really dead this time, now that three President Obama-masked thugs dressed all in black and communicating only with hand-held voice synthesizers pressed up against their voice boxes have beat the life right out of him inside a dark, downtown Albany alley. What are the thugs after? A box. Size, weight, description unknown. They also want him to stay away from his newest and only client: a handicapped nuclear engineer of dubious Russian heritage by the same of Peter Czech.

But then, now that they’ve killed him, Moonlight’s problems seem to be over. In fact, as he undergoes an out of body experience, his soul floating above his train-wreck of a corpse inside the Albany Medical Center I.C.U., he feels pretty damned good. Great in fact. To make death all the more sweeter, his one true love, Lola, is standing by his bedside. With her long dark hair draping her chiseled face and big round Jackie O sunglasses hiding tear-filled eyes, she appears every bit the grieving sig other. Nothing could make the dead-and-gone Moonlight prouder.

But then something happens. Something bad. A man enters into the I.C.U. Some young guy. He takes hold of Lola’s hand, and pulls her into him. Together, the two share a loving embrace over Moonlight’s dead body. Now, what seemed like a peaceful death is anything but. Moonlight wants back inside his body so he can face-off Some Young Guy and find out if his true love has in fact been cheating on him. At the same time, he wants to find out the true identity of those thugs who killed him so he can exact his revenge. No doubt about it, Moonlight needs to live if he’s going to uncover some pretty painful answers and take care of business.

Like a little kid dropping down a playground slide, Moonlight slides right back inside his bruised and broken body. Opening his eyes the white light blinds him. He feels the pain of his wounds and the pain of his breaking heart.

Life sucks, then you die.

But Moonlight rises.

My thoughts about the book:
I haven’t been riveted to a suspenseful book in a long time. I thought Moonlight Rises was a great action-packed book. I have read so many predictable books – why finish them if you have figured out the ending way back in the beginning of the book? Moonlight Rises kept me guessing all the way until the end. I found each of the characters interesting and a bit mysterious in terms of their motives, backgrounds, and relation to the story. I like Moonlight’s personality and the sarcastic humor used at times.

Overall, I believe Zandri is a clever author who has definitely found a new fan in me. I enjoy his writing and the “voice” of the story. I look forward to more Moonlight books – I want to hear what’s in store for Moonlight and what trouble will find him.
